MEMORY 2 + SKILL 2

MEMORY 2; Traveling with Crepsley. [The Vampire's Assistant, Pages 3 - 17]
FORM; A miniature toybox, open the receive your memory.
So! This memory isn't necessarily a pleasant one, but it's got a huge infodump that's necessary so that he doesn't accidentally make himself sick in Aather by doing things that are actually stupid. It contains ALL OF THE INFORMATION HERE aside from the culture notes.

The memory starts with Darren traveling around—he spends his time studying vampires with Crepsley, helping him hunt (though never drinking because he can't, and genuinely having a hard time thinking he's a vampire now, instead still thinking he's human until he catches himself. He's not taking the adjustment well! Mr. Crepsley was an awful teacher and he didn't like repeating himself, so Darren had to learn really fast. There's a lot of distance between the cemetary and them now (but Darren doesn't know why a cemetary should even be involved in the first place).

They spent a lot of time sleeping in the GOOD OLD OUTDOORS until Darren finally had enough of it and demanded hotels to sleep in.

He learns that it will take years for him to be able to function by himself, though, which is the cause of a lot of resentment — Darren does entertain thoughts of killing Crepsley, but he never does it because he knows he can't survive without him. He... also is of the belief that maybe, just maybe, only the vampire half of him would die if he didn't drink blood. That he wouldn't actually completely die on his own.

But in general he had a very hard time with Mr. Crepsley. He had his moments where he was a nice old man, but he knows now that it was Crepsley's fault that he couldn't stay with his friends and family, and that it was his fault he was a half-vampire... He resented Madam Octa a lot, too. Darren stole her, so he had to take care of her. Aside from that, though, he just... learned about being a half-vampire and how to cook and stuff like that. Not too entertaining and there's a lot of resentment, anger, and sadness.

One day, though, Darren got tired of being indoors while his mentor was sleeping. He left a note on the TV and set out to explore the town! He found a bunch of kids playing hockey there, and he joined in — he had fun, up until he got pinched in a very bad place and he got mad and then... slammed his hockey stick into a kid's shinbones and broke them. He instantly left, realizing that he couldn't function with normal humans easily anymore, and ran back to the hotel. The moment Crepsley woke up, he told him that they had to go, so they left.

They found an abandoned church, slept some, and then Darren spent some time exploring. He goes to the store, picking up some food, so by the time Crepsley wakes up there's a decent stew waiting! They eat in silence, until Crepsley thanks him for the meal and then asks what went wrong.

It all comes out about the hockey game gone wrong, and Darren is just. Incredibly sad and lonely. Angry. He explodes all over Crepsley about how he's a monster and that it's Crepsley's fault and that he's just twelve and he wants friends and family but Crepsley took it away from him. He doesn't think he can make true friends because wow, you can't really tell humans that you're a vampire!

"But every vampire isn't a child!" I shouted. "What age were you when you were changed? Were you a man?" He nodded. "Friends aren't that important to adults. My dad told me that grown-ups get used to not having a lot of friends. They have work and hobbies and other stuff to keep them busy. But my friends were the most important thing in my life, besides my family. Well, you took my family away when you pumped your stinking blood into me. Now you've ruined the chances of my ever having a real friend again."

"Thanks a lot," I said angrily. "Thanks for making a monster out of me and wrecking my life."

Mr. Crepsley gets really sad about this and then he comes up with the bright idea to take Darren back to the Cirque du Freak so that he can make some friends and not have to hide his secret and the memory cuts off there.

SKILL 2; Half-Vampirism; durability.
FORM; A storybook containing all of the stories from Beast's game.
There's not actually much to this skill. His teeth, bones, skin, and nails are all much tougher than they used to be!
